Door-To-Door Repair Scam Update
KENDALL, KERR, AND COMAL COUNTIES - The Kendall County Sheriff's Office sends a bulletin that traveling operators are going door to door convincing elderly folks that they need to "seal coat" their driveways to prevent deterioration, erosion, or other damage. The con men basically spray paint the driveway and are known to charge as much as $9600. A few suspects have been arrested today, but it is believed that others may be breaking into smaller groups and moving swiftly through Central Texas.
TEXAS CITY -Texas City Police report roof repair scams targeting elderly homeowners. The roofer is allegedly accepting downpayments and then failing to perform agreed repairs. Homeowners are cautioned to check references on local contractors before making payments, and to be wary of door-to-door repair sales.
STATEWIDE -Reports of door-to-door scams targeting seniors indicate what is potentially a statewide issue. If you or anyone you know has been victimized by a scam of this nature, or if you have been approached with a suspicious, unsolicited offer of repair work on your home, contact your local police or sheriff's department.
