Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today asked local residents to volunteer their time at his office's Brownsville child support field office. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., to perform a variety of duties, including data entry, filing, and assisting attorneys and child support officers. The Brownsville child support office handles more than 16,000 child support cases in Cameron County.

"Nothing is more valuable to individuals than their time, which is why volunteering to help Texas children is such a profound and generous act," Attorney General Paxton said. "Volunteers are key to the success of our child support program, helping ensure that young Texans have the resources they need to grow healthy and strong."

Individuals interested in volunteering should call (956) 992-7531 or (956) 202-3083 to reach Guadalupe Leal, the Child Support Division Regional Outreach Coordinator for Region 3, who can provide additional information and arrange an interview.

Each year, volunteers across the state help the attorney general’s office serve Texas families and children more efficiently and effectively. Volunteering can be beneficial to people from different walks of life, including individuals seeking new job skills; student-interns seeking to satisfy course requirements; retirees and other Texans who simply wish to give back to their communities.

The attorney general's Child Support Division is directed by state and federal law to assist Texas families who currently receive or have received public assistance and families who request child support services. Services include locating absent parents; establishing paternity for children born to unmarried parents; establishing, enforcing, and modifying child and medical support orders; and collecting and distributing child support payments.
