District and County Attorney Reporting

Under Title 1 of the Texas Administrative Code Chapter 56, District Attorneys and County Attorneys presiding in a district or county with a population of 400,000 or more persons must submit reports relating to criminal matters, and the interest of the state, to the Office of the Attorney (OAG) in a manner prescribed by the OAG. These reports must be submitted initially by July 1, 2025 and continue quarterly thereafter.

Chapter 56 is currently the subject of ongoing litigation. At present, a Travis County trial court has temporarily enjoined enforcement of these rules, in an order available here. OAG looks forward to prevailing in that litigation, which is currently pending in the Texas appellate courts. Although the trial court's order suspends Chapter 56's mandatory reporting obligations and no county is currently required to submit a report, any county that wishes to voluntarily submit a report may do so following the process for submission below.

Process for Submission

All reports under Chapter 56 must be submitted in the Chapter 56 Reporting Portal. Please click here for instructions on gaining access to the Portal.
