The Office of the Attorney General sent a letter to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, asking it to revise its Interim Guidance for Administrators and Leaders of Community- and Faith-Based Organizations to Plan, Prepare, and Respond to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The letter points out that CDC’s Interim Guidance unconstitutionally invades decisions about doctrine, ritual, and liturgy reserved solely for religious organizations. For example, the Interim Guidance tells churches how to serve communion and Jewish congregations how to observe the Sabbath. The letter calls for the CDC to remove these parts of the guidelines.
