Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recognized Janie Martinez, supervisor for the Child Support Division’s Victoria office, for her commitment to Texas children. Martinez was named “Supervisor of the Year” on Friday at the Statewide Child Support Managers’ Conference in Dallas. Martinez was selected for the award based on recommendations from her peers and supervisors, with a particular focus on her willingness to go beyond her normal duties to serve Texas children.

“I commend Janie for her hard work and dedication to improving the lives of Texas children,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Janie represents the best, and it is employees like her that make this agency great. I am thankful to Janie for answering the call to serve the people of Texas.”

Martinez began her career in 1982 when child support services were provided through the Department of Human Services. She was promoted to office supervisor in 1993. Martinez was chosen “Supervisor of the Year” because of her quiet determination and consummate professionalism. Martinez feels as passionately about helping families as she did when she started 34 years ago.

Victoria office manager David Kabela said, “Each customer Janie helps becomes the recipient of the knowledge a lifetime of service has built. She has earned the trust of the Victoria office, as well as her regional management team. When Janie speaks, others listen.”

The Victoria child support office handles more than 15,000 child support cases and collected $46 million in child support for the state fiscal year that ended Aug. 31. The Attorney General’s Child Support Division is the most successful and cost-effective program in the nation. The division handles 1.5 million child support cases, serving 1.7 million children. The division collects $12.26 for every $1 spent to operate the program and collected $3.8 billion in child support in federal fiscal year 2015.
