Attorney General Ken Paxton led a bipartisan coalition of 45 attorneys general advocating for federal funds to support state antitrust enforcement efforts. In a letter to the chairs and ranking members of Senate and House antitrust subcommittees, the attorneys general explain that economic developments have drastically increased the need to staff and finance a greater number of antitrust enforcement actions that are fundamentally more complex and resource-intensive than in the past.

“I will continue to ensure Texas leads the effort to protect competition and maintain a truly free and fair marketplace,” said Attorney General Paxton. “States play a critical role in this fight as leaders in cases like our ongoing enforcement actions in Big Tech. Additional resources to enforce our antitrust laws are more necessary than ever.”

Congress is considering a number of bills that would enable more robust enforcement. Antitrust cases are often pursued together with federal partners or in multistate coalitions. Such complex actions require substantial commitments by lawyers and experts, as well as significant technological resources. Increased funding will allow states to meet these challenges for the benefit of their citizens and the economy.
