In a sweep conducted with the Texas Attorney General’s Child Support Division, Travis and Hays County Constables arrested nearly 50 parents for violating child support orders. The law enforcement effort provided Texas children $48,256 in collected child support. The Attorney General’s Child Support Division investigators assisted by locating missing parents.

“Caring for your children is the fundamental moral duty of any parent,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said. “I commend everyone involved in holding accountable those who attempt to evade child support. Their dedication to enforcing the law helps ensure better care and better lives for Texas’ most vulnerable citizens.”

This effort demonstrates the diligence of Travis County Constable Lopez, and Hays County Constable David Peterson of Precinct 1, Constable Michael Torres of Precinct 2, Constable Ray Helm of Precinct 3, and Constable John Ellen of Precinct 5. Constable Lopez arrested 27 parents, and the Hays County Constables arrested 17 parents.

Delinquent parents arrested on civil warrants face up to six months in jail. Cash bonds posted by delinquent parents seeking release from jail are paid to the custodial parents and children who are owed back child support.

Parents who have fallen behind on their child support payments – but are not subject to warrants for their arrest – should immediately contact the Attorney General’s Child Support Division at (800) 252-8014 or visit Child Support Interactive to make payment arrangements.
