AG Paxton Leads 16-State SCOTUS Brief Supporting President Trump’s Travel Ban
“President Trump's highest obligation is to ensure the safety and security of all Americans, and with his latest travel ban, he is fulfilling that sacred responsibility,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The travel ban is constitutional and vital to upgrading both vetting and national security procedures that will help protect the nation from terrorism. The president is invoking executive powers embodied in the Constitution, authorized by Congress and used 44 times by a bipartisan list of former presidents without a legal challenge.”
AG Paxton Joins U.S. AG Sessions at Press Conference Announcing DOJ’s New Steps to Combat the Nation’s Opioid Epidemic
“I shouldn't have to tell another story like this one, nor should anyone else,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The opioid crisis demands the attention of federal, state, local and private sector leaders. My office will continue to do everything it can to protect Texans from the opioid crisis.”
AG Paxton Defends Humane Treatment of the Unborn at the 5th Circuit
“During the trial of this case, through compelling testimony and documentary evidence, my office exposed the horrific truth of dismemberment abortions. This barbaric procedure completely disregards respect for human life and humane treatment of the unborn,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Senate Bill 8 promotes dignity and respect for human life as well as the integrity of the medical profession.”
AG Paxton and Wisconsin AG File 20-State Lawsuit to End the Grip of Obamacare on Texas and the Nation
“Texans have known all along that Obamacare is unlawful and a divided Supreme Court's approval rested solely on the flimsy support of Congress' authority to tax. Congress has now kicked that flimsy support from beneath the law,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The U.S. Supreme Court already admitted that an individual mandate without a tax penalty is unconstitutional. With no remaining legitimate basis for the law, it is time that Americans are finally free from the stranglehold of Obamacare, once and for all.”
AG Paxton Files Supreme Court Brief on the Merits in Texas’ Redistricting Case
“In 2012, at the Supreme Court's direction, the federal district court in San Antonio drew the redistricting maps. Those maps were adopted by the Legislature in 2013 and used in the last three election cycles,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Now, we are seeing yet another attempt by unelected federal judges to override the judgment of Texas voters. The lower court's decisions to invalidate parts of the maps it drew and adopted defy law and logic and cannot be sustained.”
AG Paxton’s Office Participates in Largest Coordinated Sweep of Elder Fraud Cases in U.S. History
“Anyone can be a victim of fraud, but senior citizens are targeted more often by scammers seeking to exploit someone for a quick buck,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Today's action is one of many steps my office has taken in the fight to protecting elderly Texans whose financial well-being is compromised by nefarious characters.”
AG Paxton Releases Statement Following Hearing on the Waters of the United States Rule
“Legal action is well underway by the Trump administration to rescind and replace the rule while the EPA works to establish certainty across Texas and all states about what waters are subject to federal regulation,” Attorney General Paxton said. “There is no reason for the court to do anything other than enjoin the doomed WOTUS rule.”
AG Paxton Continues Dialogue with School Districts Engaged in Unlawful Electioneering
“School districts exist to educate, not function as political action committees. I am thankful that the school districts in question recognized this and promptly complied with Texas law after my office issued letters last week,” Attorney General Paxton said. “By working with us so quickly, they help all Texas school districts understand that they have a distinct responsibility to refrain from spending public funds on advocating for or opposing political candidates.”
AG Paxton Obtains Final Judgment for Taxpayers in Kilgore ISD Lawsuit
“I am grateful that the court recognized Kilgore ISD's attempt to siphon money away from Texas homeowners without their vote or consent,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Local governments cannot simply ignore laws they do not like. My office will continue to stand up for homeowners in these districts and voters across the state.”
AG Paxton Defends Constitutionality of Texas’ Foster Care System at 5th Circuit
“We appreciated the opportunity to demonstrate that this case raises serious federalism concerns when an unelected federal judge sought to substitute her own individual judgment for that of the people of Texas' duly elected representatives, executive officers, and judges,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The district court's misguided directives will irreparably harm the foster care system, uproot many children, and reverse the progress that Texas has made since the Legislature enacted landmark changes to the system last year.”
