AG Paxton Leads Six-State Coalition on Brief in Support of Religious Liberty

“The government lacks any and all constitutional authority to interfere in the internal administrative affairs of the church; such an intrusion is in fact strictly prohibited,” Attorney General Paxton said. “The First Amendment exists in order to preserve the people’s right to shape their own faith and advance their church’s mission. This, by necessity, includes managing the church’s financial assets and deciding how, when, and by what principles those assets should be invested or spent. For the judiciary to step in is to put the weight of law behind one theological divide and force the court in the position of creating religious doctrine.”

AG Paxton Files Petition in Continued Fight on EPA Overreach

“This Rule requires expensive and excessive restrictions that will damage not only our economy, but the livelihood of citizens across the state with little to no effect on the environment,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said. “It is clear that the EPA has disregarded state-specific plans and successful environmental action in favor of continuing to expand their regulatory power over states. My office will continue to defend our state from the EPA’s harmful, overreaching regulations.”

AG Paxton Leads Multi-State Coalition in U.S. Supreme Court Amicus Brief Against Abusive Patent Litigation

“The Federal Circuit’s misinterpretation of the patent venue law undermines public confidence in the judicial system and has, as it was once described, turned the Eastern District of Texas into an intellectual property ”˜speed trap,’” Attorney General Paxton said. “Patent trolls know full well that the cost of litigating cases there makes it cheaper for many companies to just pay them to go away. That’s why it’s so important for the Supreme Court to reverse the lower court.”

AG Paxton Releases Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch

“President Trump has made an outstanding selection in nominating Judge Neil Gorsuch for the United States Supreme Court. There is no other candidate in America who embodies the legal intellect and judicial temperament of the late Antonin Scalia more than Judge Gorsuch. His judicial track record while serving on the 10th Circuit for over a decade is a testament to his conservative philosophy, particularly in the areas of excessive federal overreach and the protection of religious liberty. I am confident that, like his predecessor, Judge Gorsuch will faithfully interpret the Constitution as written by the Framers, exercise judicial restraint, and not legislate from the bench.”

AG Paxton: 39,000 Texans Eligible for Restitution in $5 Million Western Union Consumer Protection Settlement

“This settlement serves as a cautionary tale that scam artists are always looking for new ways to fool people into wiring them money, including schemes purportedly involving family members, romantic interests, lotteries and contests,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Western Union has agreed to establish an anti-fraud program, which should help ensure consumers can safely wire funds and avoid being ripped off by crooks.”

AG Paxton Releases Statement Supporting Texas Rally for Life

“The attorney general’s office recognizes and applauds the thousands of men and women who stood before the Texas State Capitol in solidarity with the unborn. Rest assured that we heard your cry, and we swear to exhibit the same ardor and compassion in our defense of human dignity as you did today. The American experiment was built on the unalienable truth that all human life, regardless of race, creed, ability or gestational age, deserves the law’s protection. My office will not falter until that protection applies to every single Texan without exception.”
