Are you supporting a crime victim and experiencing lost wages as a result? You may be eligible for compensation for the time you’ve taken to assist, whether it’s attending medical appointments, funerals, or criminal justice proceedings with them. Here’s what you need to know about receiving support for your efforts:

Too often, those supporting victims of violent crimes miss work to provide care or attend important events, but they don’t realize they may be eligible for compensation for lost wages. The Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) Program may be able to help cover lost wages for that type of support.

Who Can Get Help?

You may qualify for assistance if you are eligible for the CVC Program and miss work for any of the following reasons:

  • Supporting a victim during hospitalization or at home disability period
  • Assisting with attending crime related appointments such as medical and criminal justice proceedings
  • Time missed for funeral services
  • During bereavement period
  • Attending their own mental health care appointments
  • Time missed within the first 14 calendar days of the crime date

If you’re a victim looking for help with Lost Wages, please go to the Lost Wages for Victims page for the right resources.

How Much Can the Compensation Program Cover?

The CVC Program covers up to $700 per week for lost wages for crimes after July 14, 2016. For crimes before that date, different limits may apply.
