Three States Join Texas’ Lawsuit Against Federal Government over Obamacare Tax
“More states are realizing this is yet another example of the Obama Administration writing the law through bureaucratic rulemaking, without any consideration for taxpayers or input from lawmakers or the states,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The pain is already being felt largely by middle-class wage earners, and now, the federal government is passing on additional taxes through the States. I will continue fighting to protect Texans from this unconstitutional tax funding the insolvent Obamacare mandate.”
Paxton: Federal Government Must Respect Religious Beliefs
“The principles of our nation, not to mention federal law, provides that the government must respect the closely-held religious beliefs of its citizens,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said. “These nonprofits, driven by faith and sincere convictions, serve our communities in important ways ”“ from education to health care to caring for the elderly. It’s paramount that that they continue their contributions to society, and Texas will continue to fight any impediments imposed upon these organizations by the Obama Administration.”
Texas Files Suit Against Federal Government over Unconstitutional Obamacare Tax
“This threat to cut Medicaid funding to Texans unless the state continues to pay hundreds of millions in taxes to Washington amounts to the very ”˜gun to the head’ the Supreme Court warned about in earlier rulings on Obamacare,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said. “Not only is the federal government threatening the health care needs of millions of Texans, but it is doing so using Texans’ own money, collected from them through taxes. This represents yet another huge overstep of authority for this administration, which once again has demonstrated their willingness to circumvent the Constitution in order to achieve their policy goals.”
Attorney General Paxton Statement on King v. Burwell
“Obamacare has been fundamentally flawed from the very beginning, causing millions to lose their health plans and increasing costs for patients, doctors and businesses. This case focuses on the Obama Administration’s deliberate actions in direct contradiction to the law, implementing Obamacare as they please and ignoring the statute as written. I lend my unwavering support to the states of Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, Nebraska, South Carolina and West Virginia in their legal challenge to Obamacare, which could limit the applicability of the individual and employer mandates forced on Texans. I am hopeful that this lawsuit will ultimately free Texans from the bureaucratic burdens of this unjust, unaffordable and failing law.”
